TRAVIS TRILOGY is to be released 8.12.2014!! TRAVIS TRILOGY series: This was the first series I ever wrote, to prove to my editor that it COULD be done. She scoffed and shook her head, saying it wasn’t possible. I don’t take “no” very well. I know what I can do and what I can’t do. One thing you don’t want to do is throw a gauntlet down in front of me and tell me it’s impossible. NOTHING is impossible. It’s only the limits and boundaries of our reality that make it so–or not. Red Tail was the first of three books I wrote. Book 1 Red Tail (Silhouette Desire), Book 2 Dare to Love (Harlequin Temptation), Book 23, The Right Touch, (Harlequin Temptation). So I proved to her a writer could write three books that had a theme. In this case, the Travis children. Each had their story. There was NEVER a flash put on the books. This was opening a door and pioneering, which is one of my strong points as a writer. I just had to get the publisher to accept the vision I had and knew I could create. Once I brought this to the editor’s attention, she said, “Do it again.” Okay, I did. That ended up being series #2 that was never acknowledged as a series: The Kincaid Series.

Even if I had to write two earlier series: Travis Trilogy and later, Kincaid Trilogy, before Love & Glory series was embraced by the publisher—and the world. NEVER SURRENDER by Lindsay McKenna

June 1, 2014

Hi Readers!

Join me on June 6, 8 p.m., EDT, where I’ll be interviewed by the fabulous Pam Stack of Authors on the Air, about BREAKING POINT and NEVER SURRENDER!  Don’t miss this blogtalk radio interview.  And if you can’t make it?  There will be a free podcast available.  Get information about why I wrote these two powerful books!  bit.ly/1pd7Xxd

I hope you’ve had a chance to read BREAKING POINT, HQN, May, 2014.  It is part of my Shadow Warriors series for Harlequin.  The sequel to it is NEVER SURRENDER.  If you haven’t read the first book, I would strongly urge you to do so.  There, you will get introduced to two very special characters of mine that took over my world and would not let me go.  I’m so glad they didn’t!

Sequel to BREAKING POINT, HQN, May 2014, Shadow Warriors series

Sequel to BREAKING POINT, HQN, May 2014, Shadow Warriors series

You will meet Baylee Ann Thorn, Bay to her friends, who is a US Navy medic and a vaunted 18 Delta combat corpsman.  The best of the best.  Bay is part of a forty-woman volunteer unit of women who were specially trained for a year, to go into combat beside the men.  She is one of the women who gets placed in a US Navy SEAL team.   In BREAKING POINT, you get to see the SEAL team’s reaction to her being embedded in their platoon.

About the only SEAL in the platoon that doesn’t get upset with having a woman in their team, is Petty Officer First Class Gabe Griffin.  At one time, before a gutting divorce, he’d been LPO, Lead Petty Officer, of the platoon.  He was a widely respected SEAL by all the men in the platoon.  And he’s about the only SEAL who is willing to mentor Bay as she fits into their platoon for the next four months at Camp Bravo, in Afghanistan.

In the second book NEVER SURRENDER, Bay and Gabe have fallen in love and she is engaged to him.  And because of Operation Shadow Warriors, of which she is a part, Bay must go over for six more months to Afghanistan to finish out her time in service to this top secret Pentagon driven operation.  This book is about the deepest human elements of loving another through some of their darkest days.  It’s powerful, visceral, gritty and will completely involve you.  Love is the one human emotion that can rescue us when nothing else can.  It is that kind of story.

Here is an excerpt from NEVER SURRENDER:

Gabe and Bay found salvation in one another, but their love is put to the test when Bay is kidnapped on a medical mission in Afghanistan. Can her Navy SEAL rescue her before it’s too late? Read on for a sneak peek of NEVER SURRENDER by Lindsay McKenna, coming June 24, 2014 from HQN.

Gabe jerked awake, a scream on his lips. Disoriented, breathing hard, sweat running down his temples, he felt as if he were underwater, suffocating, unable to reach the surface for air.
God…what?
His mind tumbled. He looked at the digital red letters on the clock on the bed stand. It was 12:30 a.m. As he gasped for breath, his gut was tied in knots. He lay naked in the bed, feeling a horrible rush of anxiety tunnel and twist violently through him. Another nightmare? Hell, he had them regularly. This one was different. Very different. It raised the hair on the nape of his neck.
He forced himself to sit up, swinging his legs over the bed. The moment his bare feet hit the cool bamboo flooring, it gave him something to focus on, something to ground himself with. His reaction to the nightmare was joltingly different.
What the hell?
Gabe forced himself to control his breathing; something he was very good at because he was a sniper. He could damn near control every bodily function he had, including lowering his heart rate.
Wiping the sweat off his face, he blinked several times. Why was he feeling so damned scared? What the hell was this all about? He stared at the clock, making mental calculations that it was noon for Bay in Afghanistan. Daytime was safer than night-time over there. The Taliban struck during the dark hours.
Had he had a precognitive dream about her? One that showed him something that was going to happen to her? The SEAL chief’s phone call last week had made him edgy. Tense. Maybe he was just working that out in his dream state? How the hell did he know? He was no friggin’ shrink.
Standing, Gabe walked out of the bedroom, down the hall to the kitchen. He wanted water, his mouth feeling as if it had cotton balls in it. He stood at the sink, filled the cup, tipped it to his lips and slugged down the liquid. Finishing off the glass of water, he set it in the sink, turned and walked into the quiet living room.
Frowning, he felt restless, as if he had something important to do. His mind raced with questions. No answers were forthcoming. Rubbing his face with his hands, he muttered a curse. Dammit, he needed this sleep so badly. The past week, he’d been involved in the swim qualifications down at the SEAL base located on Coronado. He was in the water eight to ten hours a day. If the trained dolphins who protected the ships in the bay weren’t trying to bust his ribs as he put a fake limpet mine on the side of a cruiser’s hull beneath the water, then they were dealing with harbor seals whose duty it was to protect exactly that: the harbor. SEALs trained dolphins and harbor seals to defend and protect all the ships in the San Diego Bay. Whether they were dealing with nuclear-classed submarines, cruisers, a carrier or destroyer, they had been taught to kill an enemy frogman trying to sink a ship in their bay. His ribs were bruised as hell. His partner, Hammer, had busted a couple of ribs when an aggressive dolphin had taken him head-on yesterday. Hammer had lost that round and would be benched for six weeks while the fractures healed.
Looking around the near-dark condo, Gabe couldn’t shake the awful, roiling anxiety roaring through him. He felt his belly tighten, as if he were going to get hit with an unknown fist coming his way. Damn. Maybe a warm shower would help calm him down? It always had in the past.
Just as Gabe emerged from the bathroom, the white towel hanging low on his narrow hips, the phone rang. Looking at his Rolex, he saw it was two in the morning. An unsettled feeling avalanched him. No one called at this time of night. His mind spun with shock as he hurried to the phone sitting on the granite island in the kitchen. The only call he’d receive at this time of morning was….and he angrily shook his head, not going there. No. It wasn’t that phone call. It just couldn’t be….
Grabbing the phone, he growled, “Chief Griffin here.”
“Gabe? This is Chief Phillips.”
He felt all the air getting sucked out of his lungs, stunned to hear the SEAL’s voice calling from Camp Bravo in Afghanistan. Knees weak, Gabe suddenly sat down. “What’s happened to Bay?” he asked, holding the phone so tight his knuckles whitened.
“I’m sorry to call you,” he began heavily. “At noon our time, Mustafa Khogani attacked the village where she was holding a medical clinic. There were twenty Taliban riders, and they swept up through the line where she was helping the women and children.”
“Dammit, is she all right?” he ground out, his breath choking in his throat. Closing his eyes, he heard the SEAL Chief draw in a deep breath as if to fortify himself.
“No, she’s been kidnapped, Gabe. Reza, the terp, saw her shot from behind. Reza told Captain Anderson he recognized Mustafa Khogani on his black stallion come riding up to her. Bay fired at him, hitting him, we think, in the left leg. She was stunned by a Kevlar hit from behind. It threw her forward and to the ground. Khogani leaped off his horse and punched her in the face before she could get a second shot off at him. Reza said she went unconscious at that point. Khogani put her up on another rider’s horse, who is unidentified, and they rode for the wadi and disappeared into the underbrush. Khogani then ran over and grabbed her medical rucksack and took it with him.”
Gabe couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t speak. A knot in his throat was so painful, he couldn’t pass words through or around it. Gabe’s mind spun with the information. He’d snapped awake at twelve-thirty in the morning. That would have been the exact time Bay had been kidnapped.
He rubbed his face savagely. “Chief, get me ordered over there right now. I’ll get my commander to let me get over there as soon as possible. I’m coming over as a strap-hanger. I’ll find her….”

WHAT REVIEWERS ARE SAYING ABOUT “NEVER SURRENDER…”
Publisher’s Weekly Magazine, 5.12.2014
STAR review
NEVER SURRENDER by Lindsay McKenna, HQN, ISBN 978-0-373-7788-9

“McKenna takes readers on a gritty and emotional journey with this high-octane sequel to BREAKING POINT, HQN, May 2014.  Navy SEAL Chief Gabe Griffin would do anything for his fiancee, Navy Petty Officer First Class Baylee-Ann (Bay” Thorn.  She’s a member of a select group of women secretly being tested for combat readiness.  Bay has just returned from deployment when she’s sent back to Afghanistan to provide medical support to an Army platoon. When a sadistic Taliban warlord kidnaps her, Bay’s life and sanity are on the line, and Gabe moves heaven and earth to rescue her.  McKenna provides heartbreakingly tender romantic development that will move readers to tears.  Her military background lends authenticity to this outstanding tale, and readers will fall in love with the upstanding hero and his fierce determination to save the woman he loves (July).”  Publisher’s Weekly Magazine

Review of NEVER SURRENDER:

“I looked forward to the continuation of Lindsay McKenna’s Shadow Warriors series with the sequel to the story of Navy SEAL Chief Gabe Griffin and Petty Officer First Class Baylee-Ann “Bay” Thorn that began in Breaking Point (HQN, May 2014). NEVER SURRENDER definitely DID NOT disappoint. It actually exceeded my expectations and surpassed my vivid imagination.

This book does not hold anything back. Nothing was sugarcoated. Ms McKenna meticulously revealed the human side of our Military Warriors.  You are deeply drawn into their physical and emotional suffering.  It is impossible not to feel their pain while encouraging their determination. In the end, it is their deep and steadfast love that allows them to fight for each other and come out on the other side victorious.

Being a highly trained and skilled 18 Delta Combat Medic, Bay’s services are crucially needed in Afghanistan. While rendering support Bay is kidnapped and brutally attacked by Taliban warlord Mustafa Khogani.  She relies on her previous training while embedded with Gabe’s SEAL platoon to survive.  Her deep love for Gabe enables her to keep fighting until he is able to rescue her.

When Bay and Gabe join forces, nothing is impossible. Obstacles are faced together and conquered.  Gabe’s intense love allows him to eventually give her the time and space she needs to heal in body and soul. They fully embody the SEAL inherent instinct to Never Surrender.  Be forewarned to read with tissues at hand as your own emotions will be thoroughly engaged!”

“As usual, Ms. McKenna weaves an extremely powerful story. The continuation of Bay and Gabe’s story from Breaking Point is fast-paced, action packed, fascinating and, at times, heart wrenching. In this book, Gabe and Bay become engaged, then Bay is deployed back overseas as a medic while Gabe stays in the states. While overseas, Bay is kidnapped by a terrorist cell and Gabe pulls strings to get over there, find her and bring her back. This story is about the road back. This is a story that you very seldom hear, much less read about, because so many people aren’t willing to talk about it, much less deal with it and/or write about it. Ms. McKenna does it with style, grace, empathy and love. You DO NOT want to miss this book!”

“First, you don’t need a regular size tissue box.  You need the JUMBO size!  Just saying.  I started the book early this morning.  I haven’t cried so much and yelled at a book, like I have this one.  I am almost finished.  Thank you for writing an amazing love story.”

“…This is an awesome series and just an amazing book. I LOVED the first half of Bay and Gabe’s story (Breaking Point) and was so excited to read this half. Now I hope there’s another book for Gabe’s friend, Mike. Job well done Ms. McKenna.

My loyal readers know that I write gritty, edgy, powerfully emotional stories about my beloved characters.  NEVER SURRENDER hits a new personal high for me.  Be warned:  you will need a box of tissue when you start this book.   It’s the best compliment a writer can receive from one of her readers:  that the book made her or him cry.
I would love to hear from you after you read this sequel.  http://lindsaymckenna.com/contact/

Chief Jaco can be found at http://www.michaeljaco.com.  It was his book, THE INTUITIVE WARRIOR, that put me on a path of trying to find him and ask him for his technical expertise on DOWN RANGE.  I had 66 unclassified technical questions for him.  Thanks to his intrepid wife, Tracy jo jaco, who contacted me by phone and we talked and she made this meeting happen a year after I’d contacted him by email.

COURSE OF ACTION, HRS, November 5 ,2013 by Lindsay McKenna and Merline Lovelace

October 30, 2013

DEAR READER

Course of Action was created by myself and Merline Lovelace for Harlequin Romantic Suspense. There will be three books, one coming out each year, 2013, 2014 and 2015, with connected stories (novellas). She is a sister military vet and been a long-time friend. I came up with a concept of us doing a novella each (35,000 words in length) on the black ops community. She was an Air Force Colonel and was the first woman to run an Air Force Base (and showed the boys how to do it). I was in the US Navy. I had a secret clearance and Merline a top secret clearance. Both of us dealt in the black ops of the secretive military side that civilians don’t get to see.

We wanted to do a sort of show-and-tell on the different black ops communities because each is different in their own, unique way. For example, if it’s got to do with ocean, the the SEALs are called from the US Navy.  There will be stories about an Air Force combat controller, US Navy SEAL, Ranger, Army Special Forces, Marine Force Recon and Delta Force. We chose to do six novellas, two stories about two of the men in each book. This series will be released by Harlequin Romantic Suspense once a year.
And, we wanted a story that had threads to the other characters so we build a ‘family’ that the readers would love. Merline is a great brain-stormer and fun to work with. We came up with the concept that six young men in a West Texas town in the middle of nowhere, are football heroes. These six men played hard and played together. They called themselves the Sidewinders and had a tattoo on their upper right biceps to prove it. They went on in four years of high school to win two Texas championships; they played as a team, with heart and fierceness.

A day after graduating, Duke Carmichael, Travis Cooper, Dan Taylor, Jack Halliday, Josh Patterson and Chris Winborne, go down to the military recruiter’s office and join the military branch of their choice. And because of their mental toughness, their heart, they all end up in different black ops units in the military branch they chose.
The first two stories are about Duke Carmichael and Travis Cooper. Duke chose to go into the Air Force. Travis became a Navy SEAL.  Below are my comments about my up and coming novella in the Course of Action series stories. This book will be in paperback and eBook and will become available November  5, 2013.

From Lindsay McKenna:
Out of Harm’s Way
Hero:  Travis Cooper, PO2, US Navy SEAL
Travis is a vaunted SEAL sniper.  The last thing he expects to come through his satellite phone from the forward operating base, Bravo in Afghanistan, is a call to save a kidnapped American woman.  He’s on the Afghan-Pak border, waiting for an HVT, high value target, to cross over from Pakistan into the country where he waits and hides.   Only, his whole plan is dismantled when the call comes through.

The American woman who has been kidnapped by the Taliban, is part of a group brought in from the US to teach Afghans how to breed better horses.  Madison Duncan, 26, has disobeyed the Marine Corps captain’s warning and slips outside the Afghan home where the group has been gathered.  She’s dying to see the small, tough Afghan horses in a corral out back.  It is dusk and Madison’s common sense is swept away by her passion and love of horses.  Only…the Taliban is waiting.  And they kidnap her, riding hard for the Pak border ten miles away.

And the only person standing in their way of getting there is Travis Cooper, a Texas boy who knows horses, too.  And he’s going to have to take on five Taliban on horseback to try and rescue Madison.  And the odds aren’t in his favor:  One SEAL against five well armed enemy soldiers who have a hostage that they’d rather shoot than allow to live.
Can Travis pull off the impossible?  Can he rescue the woman without her being killed in the process?  It’s going to take all his Texas ranching experience along with his SEAL training, to pull off this unexpected op.  IF he can….   There is no US help coming even if he does manage to rescue Madison.  They are deep in enemy territory and everything depends upon Travis’ SEAL knowledge of the area to get her to safety.  What he doesn’t expect is to be powerfully drawn to the brave young woman.
USAF Combat Controllers go through the same brutal training as Rangers and SEALS.  They can ingress a target area on or under water.  They can also scale or rappel down mountains; do high- and low-altitude jumps; engage the enemy in hand-to-hand combat; treat any injuries they or another member of their squad sustains; and live off the land for weeks, if necessary.
What makes combat controllers different from any other Special Operators is that they’re also fully certified Air Traffic Controllers.  They’re the ones who call in air strikes on hostile positions, direct friendly fire, and control combat aircraft in the hot zones.  And often they do this with 500 pound bombs or mortar shells falling all around them.  You can see why I love these guys!
Merline and I truly hope you enjoy the tales of the Sidewinders!

A CHRISTMAS PROPROSAL by Linda Lael Miller and Lindsay McKenna for the Holidays!

New York Times bestselling authors Linda Lael Miller and Lindsay McKenna present two enthralling stories about the redemptive power of the holiday seaso

STATE SECRETS
Linda Lael Miller
Secret Service agent David Goddard never expected to spend his Christmas surveilling the president’s cousin. But after weeks of studying her, he finds that Holly Llewellyn’s life continues to remain a mystery. Tangled in the controversy swirling around them, David wonders, is it her secrets that fascinate him…or Holly herself?

THE FIVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
Lindsay McKenna
Morgan Trayhern’s toughest mercenary, Colt Hamlin, is looking to lie low this Christmas, but he may just have a change of heart when his matchmaking boss puts him in the path of Montana’s prettiest widow.

LINDSAY’S COMMENT:
It’s wonderful to be teamed with such a terrific writer as Linda Lael Miller for the Holiday season. For my loyal readers who love Morgan’s Mercenaries, this is a Christmas story that I had originally written in 2000 and featured Debbie Macomber, Lindsay McKenna and Stella Bagwell. It was part of Midnight Clear, a Silhouette Christmas release. It hit the New York Times best seller list. I loved writing about Morgan and his family up in Philipsburg, Montana. Each year, the family put on a huge five-day Christmas celebration for the families of their security contractors who worked for Perseus, a black ops owned by Morgan Trayhern. In this story, it is about redemption, healing and love.

With so many military vets now returning from overseas, there is a timelessness to this story that will touch all of us like a tuning fork. Having been in the military myself, the US Navy, I can tell you that being away from home during the Holidays is one of the most gut wrenching times in the year.

Family is family. So come along and read about Colt and Abbey. Celebrate their unexpected falling in love with one another as each helps out with the Trayhern Christmas tradition known as the Five Days of Christmas.

Happy Holidays to all.

FREE E-BOOK DOWNLOAD OF DANGER CLOSE by Lindsay McKenna!

Danger Close begins the Shadow Warriors Series. It is Book 1.

Danger Close begins the Shadow Warriors Series. It is Book 1.

Some of my loyal reader, back in 1999, read my first E-book, VALKYRIE. It later went on to win the Romantic Times Best E-book of the year 2000.
VALKYRIE has just been bought by Harlequin and I’m thrilled with this acquisition. Why? Because I’m going to use this book as the beginning of a new series called SHADOW WARRIORS, which will be with Harlequin HQN. It will be book #1, and it is retitled: DANGER CLOSE.
For those who might have bought the book, I’ve done some editing. I’ve also cut down the book length and tightened it up to 100,000 words. Originally it was 130,000!
This is a story of Corporal Cathy Fremont, US Marine Corps, who volunteers in 1985 for a congressional one-year trial to see if women can handle combat or not. Cathy is a sniper-quality shooter, so Major Louise Lane, CO of the WLF (Women’s Liberation Forces created by Congress), wants to show her off to the world, to tout what women can do as well–or better–than men.
Captain Jim Boland, USMC, Marine Force Recon black ops, is asked by Colonel Mackey, to try and get one of the WLF women to tell the truth about Major Lane’s tactics. Her heavy handed leadership, running the company of women into the ground with extra patrols, puts the women at risk. Lane wants media attention and doesn’t care how hard she pushes her women. Jim is of high moral fiber and agrees to help because he sees Cathy Fremont as an overworked under dog.
Cathy is not allowed to consort with the Marines in Thailand where there is a dust-up between them and Laos. The Marine brigade is there to stop incursion of Laotians into Thai territory. When she meets Jim Boland, she trusts him and he slowly gets her trust. In doing so, Jim falls in love with her. And she with him.
Mackey is not above politics and has maneuvered Jim Boland into an impossible position: get Cathy Fremont to go to Congress, in front a a senate panel, and tell the truth about Major Lane and her abusive leadership of the women in her company.
Jim and Cathy are caught up in politics, without knowing that the players on both sides of the argument over women in combat, are willing to use them as unknowing pawns for their own gain. Their love will be tested to the breaking point. And it is only when Jim throws down the gauntlet to protect the woman he loves, that he is willing to throw away his career in order to save her.
Be sure to get the sequel to this book, DOWN RANGE, HQN, December 2013 and is their daughter, Captain Morgan Boland’s, story!

Danger Close
New York Times bestselling author Lindsay McKenna brings us the exciting beginning of her Shadow Warriors series

Placing women in ground combat is only a test for Congress, but for volunteer Corporal Cathy Fremont it’s life…and probably death. In the exotic jungles of Thailand, she’s trapped in a hotbed of deception and abuse because the enemy she can’t escape is on her side of the battle line. One risk she doesn’t need is an alliance with a marine, but trusting intense Captain Jim Boland might be her only chance of survival.
Caught in the crosshairs of danger and political intrigue, Jim must sacrifice his hidden agenda to protect the woman who reawakens the passion inside him. But deadly corruption is closer than they think, and may destroy them both.

Black Jaguar Squadron series
February, 2013

I’m excited about BEYOND VALOR for many reasons. As the creator of the sub-genre of military romance back in 1983, I’ve stayed true to my own roots. I served my country in the US Navy and I portray the men and women of our services in a positive light. They deserve our respect and admiration. Their sacrifices are little known, but deserve to be shown. They fight and sometimes, give their lives for the freedom we enjoy in the USA. I will continue to write about them because I was one myself, and my experience and knowledge of the military is more than skin deep.

For my readers who love reading my military romantic suspense, you will meet US Navy corpsman Luke Collier. He’s embedded with a Marine Corps company that has just been deployed to Afghanistan and to the village of Lar Sholtan, not far from the Afghan-Pakistan border. As a combat corpsman, he’s seen his share of just that. What he’s not expecting is to have a WOMAN Navy corpsman assigned to him in the Marine company. Megan Trayhern, daughter of Noah and Kit Trayhern, could have gone to the US Naval Academy and become an officer. For those readers who have been following Morgan’s Mercenaries throughout the years, I am now writing about the children, which is exciting for me. All children of the Trayhern military dynasty are expected to serve their country. Even her uncle, Morgan Trayhern, who runs a black ops company, would support her decision to become an officer. But Megan is the wayward child marching to her own drummer. Her twin, Addison, goes into the Naval academy, but Megan does not. Megan instead, goes to a university and gets a four-year college degree to become a registered nurse, instead.

Megan loves to help others and ease their pain and suffering. The red haired Navy corpsman is chosen to take part in a black ops known as the Black Jaguar Squadron. Only, she’s taking part in a new offshoot of the original black ops that includes women going into ground combat. This time, women volunteering for his highly secret black ops, will be tested to see if they can handle combat situations or not. The op, known as the Shadow Warriors, has gathered a volunteer group of women from all USA military services, who are being embedded in combat situations all across the world. She gets assigned to the Marine Corps company just settling in to Lar Sholtan.

Megan knows she’s the only female in a one-hundred and forty man Marine company. Knows the Marines will question whether she, as a woman, can do the job on the shifting front lines of combat along side them. She’s assigned to be trained and work under Luke Collier, who has been in Afghanistan on three different deployments. What Megan doesn’t expect is to be drawn to the twenty-eight year old Navy corpsman. Neither does Luke, and it only complicates their relationship with one another. Fraternization between two people is strictly forbidden in the military. Megan’s duties are to work in the Afghan village and gather intel from the women she cares for, and pass it back to the captain in charge of the Marine company. Megan has been trained for one year in the hills of Camp Pendleton, and knows how to handle a pistol, fire a rifle and do all the things any man would be trained up for to deal with combat situations.

Luke Collier knows his duty. As a Marine corps combat medic, his job is to save lives — not satisfy his own desires. Megan Trayhern is his corpsman but the beautiful redhead can’t be anything more. Luke has already given his heart once, and he understands the toll the deployments can take on a woman, on a romance…on a marriage.

Megan has her own mission. While she doles out medical care in the nearby village, she’s also gathering intel. It’s a dangerous assignment that the onetime military brat undertakes without fear. She needs to focus — and be careful — and the growing passion she feels for Luke can only put them both at risk. Honor binds them both, but the heart gives its own orders…

I truly hope you enjoy their journey with one another.

On another front, as hinted above, this is the last Black Jaguar Series book. And in it’s place, BEYOND VALOR becomes a “bridge” book to the Operation: Shadow Warriors Series. And the new series will be crossing between HRS, Harlequin Romantic Suspense and HQN, mainstream romance books. So you will be getting series and mainstream stories about this unique effort to show that women survive in combat, but can be as good as any man, when the combat challenges arise.

In HQN, THE LONER, July, 2013, (Wyoming Series) is about ex-SEAL, Dakota Carson, who lives outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, just trying to survive his PTSD he’s gotten because of ten years as a black ops warrior. Sheriff’s deputy Shelby Kincaid has a run-in with him that sharply changes the trajectory of both their lives. This is a ‘bridge’ book to Shadow Warriors because I’m going to be writing about US Navy SEALs for the coming novels in this military series. At the end of this book, you will meet Captain Jake Ramsey, US Navy SEAL. His story will launch in December, 2013 (DOWN RANGE). In future Wyoming Series books with HQN, the hero or heroine will be a returning military vet, coming home from war and trying to re establish their lives in cowboy and ranching country. Stay tuned for their stories, too.

In September 2013, the foundation book for Shadow Warriors, will be released. DANGER CLOSE, HQN, is going to be a FREE E-BOOK given away by Harlequin to celebrate this new, vibrant series. So stay tuned for more information via my website, as this offering grows closer: http://www.lindsaymckenna.com. Originally, this book was first released as Valkyrie in 1999. In 2000, RT Reviews gave it E-book of the year award. This is a book whose characters I’ve loved since they came to me. I’ve done a great deal of rewrite on the novel. And it’s exciting to have Cathy Fremont and Jim Boland back into my life and yours. They are an exciting couple, their love for one another intense and their relationship tested in ways most will never have to endure. It is their daughter, Captain Morgan Boland, whose book, DOWN RANGE, HQN, December 2013, becomes a Shadow Warriors book 2. She is the daughter of two military parents and is on the cutting edge in this super secret black ops test that will challenge her limits as a Marine in combat who must pair up with a US Navy SEAL. Captain Jake Ramsey, Marine and Navy SEAL, wants nothing to do with Morgan. They have a personal history with one another and the farther away they can stay from one another, the better off they like it. But when they get Pentagon orders to work together in Afghanistan to take down a high value target, all bets are off. They have their own war with one another. Never mind the war going on around them. This book has been optioned by a well known Hollywood screen writer and she’s currently creating a movie script based upon it. More on this aspect of the book as it happens. You’ll be the first to know!

The Shadow Warriors series is going to be kick ass action, hot, intense romance and this series will throw challenges at the US Navy SEALs who must work with these courageous women warriors in life-and-death combat situations. The challenges, danger and high stakes for them personally and professionally, are going to be a nonstop thrill ride for my readers. You’re going to be hanging on with your fingernails throughout 2013 onward, as the SEAL stories roll out to be read and savored by you! I’m VERY excited about this new series. It has been in the planning stages for seven years, and now, they are here. I’ve love writing them and I hope you will enjoy reading them. Do let me know.

On another front, I’ve teamed up with retired Air Force Colonel, Merline Lovelace, a favorite author of mine because she writes kick ass romantic military suspense like me. We’ve created WARRIOR BREED. Merline and I are writing fabulous novellas based stories about the men who are in black ops across the military branches of the USA. Harlequin Romantic Suspense is going to release one book a year in this ongoing series that begins in 2013. In each book, there will be a 35,000 word novella written by each of us. If you like danger, challenge, hot sex and excitement, be ready to purchase the first book November, 2013, HRS. Do let Merline and I know what you think of stories! We’ve been contracted to write one book a year on these brave, heroic men who are SEALs, Delta Force, Marine Force Recon and Air Force PJ’s and air controllers. We think you’ll find these novellas page turners in the best of traditions. When you have two military vets like Merline and myself, who were IN the service and are more than just a little familiar with the underpinnings of how the military works, these stories are going to grab you and not let you go. Guaranteed.

As you can see, there’s lots coming from Lindsay McKenna from 2013 onward! I was in the US Navy and was a meteorologist (AG3). I wanted to develop the Shadow Warriors as a tribute to the US Navy SEALs, brave men who lay their lives on the line every day for all of us. And who better to write about them than someone who served in the Navy, just as they did? There’s something to say about having been in the military and being able to go deeper into the organization, mindset and psychology of how it operates. I think my readers will agree once you have read some of my coming SEAL book. You’ll see a difference. Start with THE LONER, HQN, July 2013, and decide for yourself. Let me know what you think. I always love hearing from my readers because you have steered me in the directions that I write. You’ve been begging me for years to write about SEALs, and now, your wish is fulfilled.

To recap 2013, here are all the books I’ve written. Have fun reading them and give me feedback. I value your thoughts. Happy New Year!
