Red Tail by Lindsay McKenna is Book 1 of the Travis Trilogy

TRAVIS TRILOGY is to be released 8.12.2014!! TRAVIS TRILOGY series: This was the first series I ever wrote, to prove to my editor that it COULD be done. She scoffed and shook her head, saying it wasn’t possible. I don’t take “no” very well. I know what I can do and what I can’t do. One thing you don’t want to do is throw a gauntlet down in front of me and tell me it’s impossible. NOTHING is impossible. It’s only the limits and boundaries of our reality that make it so–or not. Red Tail was the first of three books I wrote. Book 1 Red Tail (Silhouette Desire), Book 2 Dare to Love (Harlequin Temptation), Book 23, The Right Touch, (Harlequin Temptation). So I proved to her a writer could write three books that had a theme. In this case, the Travis children. Each had their story. There was NEVER a flash put on the books. This was opening a door and pioneering, which is one of my strong points as a writer. I just had to get the publisher to accept the vision I had and knew I could create. Once I brought this to the editor’s attention, she said, “Do it again.” Okay, I did. That ended up being series #2 that was never acknowledged as a series: The Kincaid Series.

CWO Sarah Benson, will brave enemy fire to rescue men or women caught in combat and are injured. Growing up, no one came to rescue her from a hellish foster family. And she’s damned if these brave warriors are going to be left to bleed out on the Afghan soil if she can help it. She might never have been rescued as a child, but she can rescue these heroes and save their lives.

And she’s damned if these brave warriors are going to be left to bleed out on the Afghan soil if she can help it. She might never have been rescued as a child, but she can rescue these heroes and save their lives.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Sarah Benson, US Army, Medevac pilot, has fallen in love with Ethan Quinn.  He’s a US Navy SEAL stationed at FOB (forward operating base) Bravo thirty miles from the Afghan-Pak (Pakistan) border.

If you have read the first book, RISK TAKER, Harlequin Romantic Suspense, February, 2014, then you are now reading the sequel.  These two characters were seminal for me in many ways.  Each had a powerful story to tell in their own right. And then, to put them together in the war and combat environment in Afghanistan, was to test every resolve they owned and believed in.

Ethan sees beneath Sarah’s courageous exterior of a Medevac pilot who will not leave those in jeopardy, to bleed out.  She was never rescued in the hellish foster home she grew up in until age twelve.  Because she was never saved, Sarah has made it her life mission to save others, never wanting them to know what it feels like to survive terror and abuse.  He is able to reach her through is poems that he writes and leaves for her at her tent.  And he’s the only male Sarah has ever, truly trusted.  And they are deeply in love with one another.

When her Black Hawk helicopter is shot down in a valley swarming with Taliban, the US Army thinks she and her copilot are dead.  But Ethan and the SEALs don’t think so.  They mount a mission to find out if she survived.   Sarah is alive and on her own.  And all she wants to do is walk the twenty miles to the closest FOB, Thunder, and find safety.  She wants to survive even though the odds are heavily stacked against her.

Ethan and his team find evidence that Sarah has survived.  But they are four SEALs in a valley of Taliban that number in the hundreds.  They must carefully track her, hoping to catch up to her and remain in the shadows, unseen by their mutual enemy.  Eventually, Sarah is captured by Mustafa Khogani, a Hill tribesman chief and leader who hate the Shinwari tribe that lives in the valley.   Sarah is put into a situation that is either going to be a replay of her foster family childhood or to allow a six year old boy to be sacrificed.

Sarah’s faith and trust that the SEALs will know she’s alive and find her, keeps her strong in a situation that deteriorates by the hour.  In less than a day, Khogani is going to take her over the border to Pakistan to be sold to a high Al-Qaeda leader who has plans for her.  She is a military woman captured in combat.  And Khogani knows the public relations coup he’s gotten by capturing Sarah.

February, 2014, Harlequin Romantic Suspense by Lindsay McKenna. This is book 1 of 2. It is a sequel. DEGREE OF RISK comes out March, 2014, Harlequin Romantic Suspense. Don’t miss these two books!

I rarely write sequels, but it looks like 2014, I wrote 2 pairs :-).  One is for Harlequin Romantic Suspense (above) and the other two pairs are for HQN.  All are from the Shadow Warriors series.

BOOK TRAILER:  http://youtu.be/cMzeNLN1Qq8

Everything about RISK TAKER and DEGREE OF RISK, the 2-book sequel, was different and entirely unique to anything I’ve written before.  But that’s what happens when the magic occurs and the author becomes powerfully and deeply into an alchemical process that can never be explained by words alone.

It was interesting to see what happened as I began writing RISK TAKER.  I got so deeply involved in the story of “Blue Eyes,” as she is called by the men at FOB Bravo in Afghanistan, that I knew 75,000 words just wasn’t going to scratch the surface of Medevac pilot, Army Chief Warrant Officer Sarah Benson’s life, her trials, challenges and her incredible courage and strength.

I also knew that because Sarah was badly damaged as a child and she’d fought her way out of it, that only a very special man would ever be able to dissolve the walls that protected her heart.  Her distrust of men is so deep.  She’s tired of being hit on at the FOB.  Sarah doesn’t see her own beauty, her glacier-blue eyes, or her passionate spirit to be a medevac pilot who makes a difference in men and women’s lives hanging in the balance.  But the men of FOB Bravo see her only in a sexual content, covet her and want her for only one thing.  She remains an untouched citadel, one of seventy-five women on the base of one thousand men.  A challenge that every man picks up.

Sarah’s whole being is wrapped up being a Medevac pilot.  She’s damn good at her job, a chief pilot, and has seen a lot of combat in Afghanistan in the last seven years.  Her life revolves around braving dangerous combat conditions in order to fly in and pick up wounded men and women during firefights.  She never endangers her crew or medics, who worship the ground she walks on because she’s passionate about saving lives like they are.  She’s garnered the name “risk taker”  in her medevac squadron because she’ll fly her Black Hawk through hell to reach those on the ground who are going to die if she doesn’t find the courage to land and pick them up–giving them a chance to live against all odds.

Sarah, who was in a life-and-death situation as a young girl from age six through twelve with a foster family, cried nightly for rescue. But it never came.  Now, she’s in control of her own life and she’s turned this nightmare experience into something positive.  She might not have ever been rescued from her personal, ongoing hell, but she can rescue those who are wounded and crying out for help now.  Sarah has turned her life inside out in the most positive of ways.  Her crew she flies with, thinks she’s an angel.  Her commanding officer hates her because her helicopter comes back riddled with bullet holes, shattered Plexiglas windshields and it costs the squadron its budget bottom line.  Never mind that she and her courageous medics have saved men and women’s lives on the battlefield.  Those wounded will live to go home to their loved ones, to their wife, their children and families.

RISK TAKER, February, 2014, Chief Warrant Officer, Sarah Benson, US Army, medevac, Black Hawk helicopter, is stationed with her squadron at Forward Operating Base Bravo. Only thirty miles from the Afghan-Pak border, she flies dangerous missions picking up wounded men in the heat of battle. She’s earned the nickname, “Risk Taker.”

Petty Officer Ethan Quinn, US Navy SEAL, is a straphanger assigned to the SEAL platoon based at FOB Bravo.  He’s been there three weeks and he’s heard of Blue Eyes. She’s part and parcel of the myths that float around an FOB among a thousand horny men.  The things he hears about her do, indeed, sound mythic.  He’s never seen her, but those that have, rave about the color of her eyes, hence her name, Blue Eyes.  And the stories that circulate alongside her beauty and eyes is her iconoclastic reserve where she allows no man near her. She’s single, the stories go.  She sits alone at the chow hall or with other women pilots, but never with a man.  When she’s in the canteen, she sits alone.  If an interested male wants to buy her a drink, she gives him a glare and warning to leave her alone.

CWO Sarah Benson, will brave enemy fire to rescue men or women caught in combat and are injured. Growing up, no one came to rescue her from a hellish foster family. And she’s damned if these brave warriors are going to be left to bleed out on the Afghan soil if she can help it. And she’s damned if these brave warriors are going to be left to bleed out on the Afghan soil if she can help it. She might never have been rescued as a child, but she can rescue these heroes and save their lives.

Ethan isn’t your typical SEAL.  He keeps part of himself hidden from his SEAL brothers because if they found out that he wrote poetry, they’d never, ever let him live it down.  The ruthless, constant jibbing about a SEAL writing poetry, would ride roughshod on Ethan and he knows it.  His mother was an English teacher.  She taught her three children from age six onward, how to speak, write and read Latin.  She was an accomplished poet with a number of books published.  Ethan, the oldest, got his mother’s poet gene.  She gave him a journal at age seven and taught him to write his thoughts and his feelings down in it.  He urged him to sketch and put drawings in there, too.  Ethan joins the SEALs knowing he has to keep this side of himself top secret.  Poets have no place in the alpha male world of SEALdom.

Ethan has finely developed skills in people watching and understanding, thanks to his instructive and insightful mother.  He sometimes wonders if he hadn’t been so attracted to the SEALs and adventure, if he wouldn’t have been a psychologist, instead.  He utilizes these skills every day with brother SEALs, with the stressed Afghan villagers and when necessary, with enemy Taliban prisoners.  He’s a complex man with many layers to himself.  One thing he has found out in his years as a SEAL, is he has to dump his emotions somewhere.  The things he experiences, the horror of what he sees, is too much for any human being to carry.

Ethan learns early on that allowing one’s emotions to run him, could get him or his brothers killed.  SEALs were taught to put it into a “kill box” and never open it up to feel the horror of their experiences.  To feel is to be distracted.  To be distracted is to be killed.  For him, his journal becomes his kill box.  When his brothers ask what he’s doing, he just tells them it’s kind of a daily diary of his life that someday, he’ll give to his children so they understand what he did in the Navy.  Everyone buys his somewhat honest explanation, and wanders away.   For Ethan, getting those feelings out on paper is essential to his well being.  He can’t stuff and ignore his emotions like the other men.  It’s a positive and healthy outlet for him.  It helps him be a SEAL and still be able to offload his feelings without becoming stoved up by the toxicity of suppressing them in a deep, dark corner of himself.

CWO Sarah Benson with Petty Officer 1st Class Ethan Quinn, US Navy SEAL. Both stationed at FOB Bravo. Sarah is saved by him when attacked by an Army sergeant. She wants nothing to do with men for good reason, but Ethan seeks to find a way through those walls she’s put up. Known on Bravo as “Blue Eyes,” she’s every man’s dream come true. The color of her eyes is a legend at the FOB. But Ethan wants more than just her outer beauty. He wants to gain her trust to gently hold her heart.

These two characters came to me and got my full, undivided attention.  They were fascinating, heroic people and I was absolutely swept away by their story.   And their story took more than one book.  That is why I penned the sequel, DEGREE OF RISK.  Ethan isn’t your typical SEAL type of warrior.  He’s not a type A wolf, but a beta wolf.  He doesn’t have to be an ego-busting warrior.  Rather, he utilizes his inner warrior to be just as good, and sometimes, better, than his alpha male brothers.  He has insight, a lot of patience, a laser-like ability to perceive people’s emotions and why they do things the way they do.

Within the platoon, he is a vaunted Communications expert, even at calling in the heavies, the B-52, and directing them to drop their bombs.  He has confidence to burn along with intense focus.  Nothing rattles him in a firefight and he’s been in many of them.  And brother SEALs like it when he’s leading their team because he possesses an almost uncanny, psychic ability to ferret out the enemy and also use it during a firefight to save lives.  It’s easy for Ethan to be an introvert because he is one.  Many of his brothers are extroverts.  He chooses quiet over bedlam.  He needs to be alone to reorder himself to remain in balance and be the best he can be.

In the opening scene of RISK TAKER, Ethan accidentally meets the mythic “Blue Eyes” at the canteen.  Only, he knows from all the constantly circulating stories about her, that he doesn’t dare approach her.  As he comes in off a long, 12-hour patrol, all he wants is a cold beer to wash the Afghan grit and sand out of his throat.  Until he spots Blue Eyes sitting alone at a table in the corner, nursing her own beer.  He sits down at another table, and he senses the aching loneliness around her.  And when he sees her briefly lift her head, his heart is slammed with yearning for her.  He was born in Alaska and seen glacier calve all the time.  The color is unearthly and yet, that very same color is in Chief Benson’s large, beautiful eyes.  Now he understands why every man at the FOB wants her for his own.

What happens next?  Well, you’re going to have to either down load the Ebook or order the paperback.  I guarantee you, it’s one hell of a story.  Two very unique people in a very dangerous environment.  Both are lonely.  Sarah distrusts men completely. Ethan is  stunned by her beauty and that haunting sadness around her.  She is off limits to men.  But Ethan doesn’t see it that way.  He is patient and he watches her obliquely, beginning to register nuances about her on every level of himself.  Now, all Ethan needs is a chance to meet her.

DEGREE OF RISK, March, 2014, places Sarah in an enemy valley, far from any help. Everyone at FOB Bravo thinks she’s died in the Black Hawk crash. All except Ethan and the SEALs mount a rescue to find out if she’s alive or not. And when they find proof she’s still alive, they will move Hell to find and rescue her. Sarah is on her own, a .45 pistol to protect her against the Hill Tribe leader, Mustafa Khogani, Taliban, who knows she’s alive. And when he finds her, she is going to be sorry she’s alive.

COURSE OF ACTION, HRS, November 5 ,2013 by Lindsay McKenna and Merline Lovelace

October 30, 2013

DEAR READER

Course of Action was created by myself and Merline Lovelace for Harlequin Romantic Suspense. There will be three books, one coming out each year, 2013, 2014 and 2015, with connected stories (novellas). She is a sister military vet and been a long-time friend. I came up with a concept of us doing a novella each (35,000 words in length) on the black ops community. She was an Air Force Colonel and was the first woman to run an Air Force Base (and showed the boys how to do it). I was in the US Navy. I had a secret clearance and Merline a top secret clearance. Both of us dealt in the black ops of the secretive military side that civilians don’t get to see.

We wanted to do a sort of show-and-tell on the different black ops communities because each is different in their own, unique way. For example, if it’s got to do with ocean, the the SEALs are called from the US Navy.  There will be stories about an Air Force combat controller, US Navy SEAL, Ranger, Army Special Forces, Marine Force Recon and Delta Force. We chose to do six novellas, two stories about two of the men in each book. This series will be released by Harlequin Romantic Suspense once a year.
And, we wanted a story that had threads to the other characters so we build a ‘family’ that the readers would love. Merline is a great brain-stormer and fun to work with. We came up with the concept that six young men in a West Texas town in the middle of nowhere, are football heroes. These six men played hard and played together. They called themselves the Sidewinders and had a tattoo on their upper right biceps to prove it. They went on in four years of high school to win two Texas championships; they played as a team, with heart and fierceness.

A day after graduating, Duke Carmichael, Travis Cooper, Dan Taylor, Jack Halliday, Josh Patterson and Chris Winborne, go down to the military recruiter’s office and join the military branch of their choice. And because of their mental toughness, their heart, they all end up in different black ops units in the military branch they chose.
The first two stories are about Duke Carmichael and Travis Cooper. Duke chose to go into the Air Force. Travis became a Navy SEAL.  Below are my comments about my up and coming novella in the Course of Action series stories. This book will be in paperback and eBook and will become available November  5, 2013.

From Lindsay McKenna:
Out of Harm’s Way
Hero:  Travis Cooper, PO2, US Navy SEAL
Travis is a vaunted SEAL sniper.  The last thing he expects to come through his satellite phone from the forward operating base, Bravo in Afghanistan, is a call to save a kidnapped American woman.  He’s on the Afghan-Pak border, waiting for an HVT, high value target, to cross over from Pakistan into the country where he waits and hides.   Only, his whole plan is dismantled when the call comes through.

The American woman who has been kidnapped by the Taliban, is part of a group brought in from the US to teach Afghans how to breed better horses.  Madison Duncan, 26, has disobeyed the Marine Corps captain’s warning and slips outside the Afghan home where the group has been gathered.  She’s dying to see the small, tough Afghan horses in a corral out back.  It is dusk and Madison’s common sense is swept away by her passion and love of horses.  Only…the Taliban is waiting.  And they kidnap her, riding hard for the Pak border ten miles away.

And the only person standing in their way of getting there is Travis Cooper, a Texas boy who knows horses, too.  And he’s going to have to take on five Taliban on horseback to try and rescue Madison.  And the odds aren’t in his favor:  One SEAL against five well armed enemy soldiers who have a hostage that they’d rather shoot than allow to live.
Can Travis pull off the impossible?  Can he rescue the woman without her being killed in the process?  It’s going to take all his Texas ranching experience along with his SEAL training, to pull off this unexpected op.  IF he can….   There is no US help coming even if he does manage to rescue Madison.  They are deep in enemy territory and everything depends upon Travis’ SEAL knowledge of the area to get her to safety.  What he doesn’t expect is to be powerfully drawn to the brave young woman.
USAF Combat Controllers go through the same brutal training as Rangers and SEALS.  They can ingress a target area on or under water.  They can also scale or rappel down mountains; do high- and low-altitude jumps; engage the enemy in hand-to-hand combat; treat any injuries they or another member of their squad sustains; and live off the land for weeks, if necessary.
What makes combat controllers different from any other Special Operators is that they’re also fully certified Air Traffic Controllers.  They’re the ones who call in air strikes on hostile positions, direct friendly fire, and control combat aircraft in the hot zones.  And often they do this with 500 pound bombs or mortar shells falling all around them.  You can see why I love these guys!
Merline and I truly hope you enjoy the tales of the Sidewinders!

Ex-Navy SEAL Talon Holt, knows all about heart rending loss. He lost his rancher father at age eleven. When his mother, Sandy Holt remarries, his foster father, Bradley, becomes a powerful and positive, loving father figure as he grows up on their family owned Triple H Ranch near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Talon leaves and joins the US Navy, becoming a vaunted SEAL. While he’s away, his foster father dies of a heart attack, leaving his mother, Sandy Holt, to run the large ranch by herself. Later, she contracts breast cancer and is forced to sell their ranch to pay her escalating medical bills. Through it all, Talon tries to be there for her, but is on deployment in Afghanistan, unable to support her as much as he wants. He sends most of his monthly pay check home to her, saving none for himself.

At twenty-eight years old, Talon is wounded and so is his combat assault dog, Zeke, on a deadly mission in Afghanistan. Both are discharged from the military, the nature of their wounds never allowing them to remain in the SEALs. Talon gets words when he’s recovering in the hospital, that his mother’s breast cancer has returned. She is nearly penniless and he must get home to be there for her; to help her. He must find a job to help earn money to pay her mounting medical bills. Yet, he’s gotten PTSD from an incident, that he can’t stand to be enclosed places like a plane, bus or train. Further, he’s been given Zeke, a Belgium Malinois, who can never do his job again because of his own war wounds. The two walk from San Diego, California to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Talon is stubbornly committed to getting home even though he’s weakened and has very little money on him. His loyal dog, Zeke, is always at his side.

Cat Edwin, paramedic and firefighter for the Jackson Hole Fire Department, driving to the Bar H during a late May snowstorm. She works there a part-time wrangler for Gus Hunter, who owns it. Griff and Val McPherson run the ranch for the eighty-four year old elder. Val is her granddaughter. What Cat doesn’t expect to find on the blizzard like conditions a mile away from the ranch, on the snow covered highway, is a man with a dog on a leash.

Little does she realize as she stops to rescue them from the blizzard, that this one compassionate act on her part will begin to change her life. She is good friends with Sandy Holt, and has never met her son, who is returning home from the military to be with his struggling mother. Gus Hunter is happy to see Talon home, offering him help from the blizzard. Zeke, his dog, is another thing all together, but the Hunter family adjusts to having an ex-SEAL combat attack dog among them. Cat is powerfully drawn to Talon, and yet, fights it. She’s got problem with an ended relationship she walked away from a year ago, but the man is now stalking her.

With help from the Hunters, Talon gets back on his feet to become a wrangler working to make money to help, once more, pay for his mother’s medical bills. He’s glad to be home to be with her, their relationship always strong and loving. What he doesn’t expect, however, is to find love for himself with Cat Edwin. The struggles, challenges and the heartbreak of coming home could weaken a lesser man, but Talon calls on his years as a SEAL. What he doesn’t realize is that Cat’s stalker is lethal. And that more than his strength and hard work as a SEAL are going to be called upon to protect her. When Cat is surrounded by danger, all Talon can think is that, once again, he will lose someone he loves. And that just can’t happen again…

If you have been reading my Wyoming Series, you will see returning people such as Gus, Val’s grandmother, Val and Griff McPherson and Cat Edwin.

BEYOND VALOR by Lindsay McKenna

Harlequin Romantic Suspense
Lindsay McKenna
Pages 282
Black Jaguar Squadron series
February, 2013

I’m excited about BEYOND VALOR for many reasons. As the creator of the sub-genre of military romance back in 1983, I’ve stayed true to my own roots. I served my country in the US Navy and I portray the men and women of our services in a positive light. They deserve our respect and admiration. Their sacrifices are little known, but deserve to be shown. They fight and sometimes, give their lives for the freedom we enjoy in the USA. I will continue to write about them because I was one myself, and my experience and knowledge of the military is more than skin deep.

For my readers who love reading my military romantic suspense, you will meet US Navy corpsman Luke Collier. He’s embedded with a Marine Corps company that has just been deployed to Afghanistan and to the village of Lar Sholtan, not far from the Afghan-Pakistan border. As a combat corpsman, he’s seen his share of just that. What he’s not expecting is to have a WOMAN Navy corpsman assigned to him in the Marine company. Megan Trayhern, daughter of Noah and Kit Trayhern, could have gone to the US Naval Academy and become an officer. For those readers who have been following Morgan’s Mercenaries throughout the years, I am now writing about the children, which is exciting for me. All children of the Trayhern military dynasty are expected to serve their country. Even her uncle, Morgan Trayhern, who runs a black ops company, would support her decision to become an officer. But Megan is the wayward child marching to her own drummer. Her twin, Addison, goes into the Naval academy, but Megan does not. Megan instead, goes to a university and gets a four-year college degree to become a registered nurse, instead.

Megan loves to help others and ease their pain and suffering. The red haired Navy corpsman is chosen to take part in a black ops known as the Black Jaguar Squadron. Only, she’s taking part in a new offshoot of the original black ops that includes women going into ground combat. This time, women volunteering for his highly secret black ops, will be tested to see if they can handle combat situations or not. The op, known as the Shadow Warriors, has gathered a volunteer group of women from all USA military services, who are being embedded in combat situations all across the world. She gets assigned to the Marine Corps company just settling in to Lar Sholtan.

Megan knows she’s the only female in a one-hundred and forty man Marine company. Knows the Marines will question whether she, as a woman, can do the job on the shifting front lines of combat along side them. She’s assigned to be trained and work under Luke Collier, who has been in Afghanistan on three different deployments. What Megan doesn’t expect is to be drawn to the twenty-eight year old Navy corpsman. Neither does Luke, and it only complicates their relationship with one another. Fraternization between two people is strictly forbidden in the military. Megan’s duties are to work in the Afghan village and gather intel from the women she cares for, and pass it back to the captain in charge of the Marine company. Megan has been trained for one year in the hills of Camp Pendleton, and knows how to handle a pistol, fire a rifle and do all the things any man would be trained up for to deal with combat situations.

Luke Collier knows his duty. As a Marine corps combat medic, his job is to save lives — not satisfy his own desires. Megan Trayhern is his corpsman but the beautiful redhead can’t be anything more. Luke has already given his heart once, and he understands the toll the deployments can take on a woman, on a romance…on a marriage.

Megan has her own mission. While she doles out medical care in the nearby village, she’s also gathering intel. It’s a dangerous assignment that the onetime military brat undertakes without fear. She needs to focus — and be careful — and the growing passion she feels for Luke can only put them both at risk. Honor binds them both, but the heart gives its own orders…

I truly hope you enjoy their journey with one another.

On another front, as hinted above, this is the last Black Jaguar Series book. And in it’s place, BEYOND VALOR becomes a “bridge” book to the Operation: Shadow Warriors Series. And the new series will be crossing between HRS, Harlequin Romantic Suspense and HQN, mainstream romance books. So you will be getting series and mainstream stories about this unique effort to show that women survive in combat, but can be as good as any man, when the combat challenges arise.

In HQN, THE LONER, July, 2013, (Wyoming Series) is about ex-SEAL, Dakota Carson, who lives outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, just trying to survive his PTSD he’s gotten because of ten years as a black ops warrior. Sheriff’s deputy Shelby Kincaid has a run-in with him that sharply changes the trajectory of both their lives. This is a ‘bridge’ book to Shadow Warriors because I’m going to be writing about US Navy SEALs for the coming novels in this military series. At the end of this book, you will meet Captain Jake Ramsey, US Navy SEAL. His story will launch in December, 2013 (DOWN RANGE). In future Wyoming Series books with HQN, the hero or heroine will be a returning military vet, coming home from war and trying to re establish their lives in cowboy and ranching country. Stay tuned for their stories, too.

In September 2013, the foundation book for Shadow Warriors, will be released. DANGER CLOSE, HQN, is going to be a FREE E-BOOK given away by Harlequin to celebrate this new, vibrant series. So stay tuned for more information via my website, as this offering grows closer: http://www.lindsaymckenna.com. Originally, this book was first released as Valkyrie in 1999. In 2000, RT Reviews gave it E-book of the year award. This is a book whose characters I’ve loved since they came to me. I’ve done a great deal of rewrite on the novel. And it’s exciting to have Cathy Fremont and Jim Boland back into my life and yours. They are an exciting couple, their love for one another intense and their relationship tested in ways most will never have to endure. It is their daughter, Captain Morgan Boland, whose book, DOWN RANGE, HQN, December 2013, becomes a Shadow Warriors book 2. She is the daughter of two military parents and is on the cutting edge in this super secret black ops test that will challenge her limits as a Marine in combat who must pair up with a US Navy SEAL. Captain Jake Ramsey, Marine and Navy SEAL, wants nothing to do with Morgan. They have a personal history with one another and the farther away they can stay from one another, the better off they like it. But when they get Pentagon orders to work together in Afghanistan to take down a high value target, all bets are off. They have their own war with one another. Never mind the war going on around them. This book has been optioned by a well known Hollywood screen writer and she’s currently creating a movie script based upon it. More on this aspect of the book as it happens. You’ll be the first to know!

The Shadow Warriors series is going to be kick ass action, hot, intense romance and this series will throw challenges at the US Navy SEALs who must work with these courageous women warriors in life-and-death combat situations. The challenges, danger and high stakes for them personally and professionally, are going to be a nonstop thrill ride for my readers. You’re going to be hanging on with your fingernails throughout 2013 onward, as the SEAL stories roll out to be read and savored by you! I’m VERY excited about this new series. It has been in the planning stages for seven years, and now, they are here. I’ve love writing them and I hope you will enjoy reading them. Do let me know.

On another front, I’ve teamed up with retired Air Force Colonel, Merline Lovelace, a favorite author of mine because she writes kick ass romantic military suspense like me. We’ve created WARRIOR BREED. Merline and I are writing fabulous novellas based stories about the men who are in black ops across the military branches of the USA. Harlequin Romantic Suspense is going to release one book a year in this ongoing series that begins in 2013. In each book, there will be a 35,000 word novella written by each of us. If you like danger, challenge, hot sex and excitement, be ready to purchase the first book November, 2013, HRS. Do let Merline and I know what you think of stories! We’ve been contracted to write one book a year on these brave, heroic men who are SEALs, Delta Force, Marine Force Recon and Air Force PJ’s and air controllers. We think you’ll find these novellas page turners in the best of traditions. When you have two military vets like Merline and myself, who were IN the service and are more than just a little familiar with the underpinnings of how the military works, these stories are going to grab you and not let you go. Guaranteed.

As you can see, there’s lots coming from Lindsay McKenna from 2013 onward! I was in the US Navy and was a meteorologist (AG3). I wanted to develop the Shadow Warriors as a tribute to the US Navy SEALs, brave men who lay their lives on the line every day for all of us. And who better to write about them than someone who served in the Navy, just as they did? There’s something to say about having been in the military and being able to go deeper into the organization, mindset and psychology of how it operates. I think my readers will agree once you have read some of my coming SEAL book. You’ll see a difference. Start with THE LONER, HQN, July 2013, and decide for yourself. Let me know what you think. I always love hearing from my readers because you have steered me in the directions that I write. You’ve been begging me for years to write about SEALs, and now, your wish is fulfilled.

To recap 2013, here are all the books I’ve written. Have fun reading them and give me feedback. I value your thoughts. Happy New Year!
