DREAM OF ME by Lindsay McKenna CONTEST!! EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT!!!

May 20, 2017

Hi Readers! It’s almost release day for Dream of Me by Lindsay McKenna!!!

DREAM OF ME, 4B1, is a Delos series novella and Sequel to BROKEN DREAMS, Book 4. Alexa Culver is the fraternal twin to her older brother, Matt. She was an Air Force A-10 combat pilot for three tours in Afghanistan. On her last deployment she met shy but sincere Marine Corps Sergeant Gage Hunter, who is a sniper. He too, is based at Bagram Army base outside of Kabul. They are a most unlikely couple to fall in love, but perhaps it is their different world experience that is the glue that binds them.

They have worked through Alexa being captured along with many other charity women at a village, and having to be rescued by Gage and US Navy SEALs. This is a follow-up novella on where they stand with one another now that they are out of military. Alexa works at Artemis Security and so does Gage. Each has different wounds that aren’t entirely healed. Especially in Alexa, who had been kidnapped to become a sex slave to a millionaire in Pakistan. Gage is a hero in her eyes like no other man. He has the patience and love of her to deal with her sometimes awkward moments when PTSD flashbacks of her captivity hits her.

Alexa loves Gage fiercely and knows she still has issues to work through, grateful that he stands by her. When she goes to Paris, France, to attend a Human Rights conference, no one expects what is about to happen. Alexa’s family, part Greek, Turkish and American, has made powerful, rich enemies. Their world is suddenly upended once again. And Gage isn’t sure they can mend the bridges once again between them after this latest attack on Alexa. Can their love survive?

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT from Dream of Me by Lindsay McKenna

Valdrin Rasari took one last look in the mirror of the Fontainebleau Hotel, only blocks from the famed Eiffel Tower. Tonight he was going to kidnap one of the Culver family’s grown children: Alexa Culver. He smiled coldly into the full-length gold framed mirror. His mouth curved even more at the irony that he, one of the major sex traffickers in the world, would be a wolf in sheep’s clothing at this conference on sex slavery. He could easily travel the world in disguise with forged passports. Right now, fifty countries had him on their no-fly list. Only third world countries were open to him buying the best children from parents who were starving. “Sell me your child, and you will live to put food on the table for a year for the rest of your family. It’s a good trade.”

This evening at the cocktail party in the huge chandelier ballroom downstairs, no one would recognize him. At six feet tall, muscular without being muscle-bound, he would carry a cane, under the guise of Dr. Analius Revig from the University of Oslo. His injury was from a “skiing accident” in his twenties, of course. Today, his short black hair was dyed gray, and his square-jawed face now sported a sporty gray mustache. His brown eyes had blue contacts over them, covered further by a pair of fashionable wire-rim glasses. After all, he was pretending to be a sixty-five-year-old man . . .

Since his alter ego was a professor, he dressed in a fashionable brown wool sport coat and black wool trousers. Under the elegant coat, he wore a white cotton shirt that had been ironed to perfection; it gave him a professorial look. He wore a black bow tie that was in keeping with the look he desired.

He was looking forward to prowling the huge gathering, eavesdropping, and seeing who was there. Valdrin took great enjoyment in being undercover. He spoke six different languages, Norwegian being one of them. Placing his old leather wallet into his coat pocket and his passport in an inner pocket, he adopted the proper slump and slight lean to the right, his cane in his left hand. Fortunately, he had one of those nondescript faces that no one would ever recognize. In fact, he had destroyed any photos of himself for the last thirty of his forty-five years on this earth. No one really knew who the monstrous Rasari was or what he looked like, even while he was on every country’s radar.

He left his bodyguards behind, a door between the sumptuous rooms. They were handlers from the compound who also looked nondescript, nothing like the usual hulking guards. He smiled, ruffling his hair so it looked like an older person’s hair. Perfecting his slump to the right and engaging a proper limp, he walked around the huge suite until he felt comfortable with his disguise. His target? None other than Alexa Culver who was attending. The pleasure of revenge filled him. By the end of the night she would be lured into his suite, drugged, and then become his personal sex slave. And then her loving family would suffer equally as much, never knowing what happened, where she was and that she would never return home.

CONTEST! Starts May 20 through May 27th! Go here to sign up. Good luck!

HAVE YOU PICKED UP MY LATEST WIND RIVER VALLEY SERIES BOOK? WIND RIVER COWBOY!

An unexpected reunion . . .

Kira Duval was part of a Special Forces team that got caught in an ambush—leaving only two wounded survivors: herself and Weapons Sergeant Garret Fleming. Losing her team was traumatic, and in the chaotic aftermath, as the Army moved them from hospital to hospital, she lost Garret too. But she never lost her secret yearning for him.

Finally, she gave up trying to track him down back in the States. But as she settles in at the Bar C cattle ranch in Wyoming, a place where veterans can find a home and a place to heal, she’s introduced to her sandy-haired, hazel-eyed housemate: none other than Garret Fleming.

They’re a long way from Afghanistan—and a long way from the people they used to be before tragedy changed their lives. But as Kira earns her keep by caregiving for the ranch owner’s bedridden, alcoholic father—a task that sometimes feels more challenging than any black ops mission—she finds that even in peacetime Garret still has her back, and that in this warm, welcoming place, the passion she resisted in the heat of battle may finally have a chance to flouish.

UNBOUND PURSUIT by Lindsay McKenna: EXCERPTS from Harlequin Junkie, plus a GIVEAWAY!

September 28, 2016

Hi Readers!

Got a lot going on this week because (finally) my sequel to Tal and Wyatt’s book, TANGLED PURSUIT, is available (although it has been in pre-order for 3 months) on 9.29.16, UNBOUND PURSUIT.

final UnboundPursuit2B_3_850

I love sequels because you get to write about “what happened next in their relationship?” And of course, readers fall in love with sympathetic main characters (or even secondary ones) and they want to continue living with them, finding out about what new challenges they’re working on.

Harlequin Junkie is a great website because of their way of structuring their questions and getting to the core of a book that they are spotlighting. Plus, you get lots of excerpts, and a more revealing, longer look at the characters. And Sarah, who owns HJ, does a great job of getting the author to do just that. The reader is the winner, no question.

So? Today, Harlequin Junkie has spotlighted UNBOUND PURSUIT. Check it out. If you loved Tal and Wyatt in Book 2 of my Delos series, now you have a rip-snortin’ sequel that you’ll learn a lot more about from HJ ;-).

http://bit.ly/2dkeBBi

Be sure to make a comment at HJ on my book! There is a giveaway of a paperback copy of it, signed by me 😉

And….SECRETS by Lindsay McKenna is the story of Mark Reuss and Mattie Lockwood! You’ll meet them in UNBOUND PURSUIT, but their story is so powerful, that I had to write it! SECRETS comes out 11.21.16!!

EXCERPT Unbound Pursuit by Lindsay McKenna, 2B1, novella, Delos Series

“Tal Culver had turned around to watch Mattie Lockwood, who with swift, knowing precision had gone to work dumping the paint-filled water from the thirty jars, washing them, and turning them upside down to dry on tea towels she’d set on the countertop.

The back door opened and closed, getting Tal’s attention. The children could come and go through two different exits. The side door led to the playground. The rear door, near the sink where Mattie worked, was hidden from view by a large mudroom. The hair on the back of her neck rose, instantly making Tal focus her attention on the entrance.

What the hell? Normally that reaction served to warn her that there was danger nearby, and it wasn’t something Tal ignored. She was in Texas. In a kindergarten classroom. Why was she suddenly on high alert?

Mattie heard the door open and close, too. She barely looked up, busily washing out the Mason jars. She didn’t want to be late getting Tal back to the ranch. Her mother was making a special meal of leg of lamb tonight for the family, and she needed to get home to help her with making the salad and the mashed potatoes and gravy. She figured it was the parent of a child who had forgotten something in the classroom coming back to pick it up.

A dark shape appeared at the entrance. Mattie turned. She gasped.

The Mason jar in her hand slipped and fell to the floor, shattering.

“Mark!” The word came flying out of her mouth. Mattie’s heart pounded in her chest as she stared up into his narrowed gold-brown eyes. He wore a black Stetson, a white long-sleeved shirt with a black leather vest over it, jeans, and cowboy boots. His mouth . . . oh, lordy, his mouth . . . she remembered only too well how wonderful he was at kissing her.

She took a step back, her eyes huge as she stared in disbelief at him. He stood motionless, like a tense statue. Mark’s gaze shot to Tal and then back to her.

“Who’s this with you, Mattie?”

She hadn’t heard his voice in four months, that same low, sensual drawl of his that made her melt, made her lower body burn with need of him. Gulping, she jerked a look toward Tal. “That’s Tal Culver, my friend,” she managed to say, choked up. She turned toward him.

“What are you doing here?” Tears clogged her eyes but she refused to let them fall, straightening her spine, throwing back her shoulders, her chin jutting out, anger flowing through her along with her shock.

“I need to talk to you alone,” Mark growled. “Get rid of her?”

Mattie scowled. Anger took over. “Go to hell, Mark!” She jabbed her finger toward the door of the mudroom. “Just get the hell out of my life! How dare you come back into it! You think you can just waltz in here after being gone for months without a word?” Her voice was shaking, she was so angry and hurt. And he looked so delicious to her. He was half Chippewa Indian through his mother, who was now dead. He had his mother’s coppery skin, that shining short black hair, those glittering, intelligent wolf eyes, as she used to refer to them, a gold-brown mixture. His mouth thinned, relaxed a little. For a split second, Mattie thought he’d smiled, or that maybe some amusement had flittered across his narrowed gaze.

“I’ve been real busy, Mattie. That’s not the welcome I was hoping for.”

She gulped back her tears. “What the hell else did you expect?”

Mark shrugged lazily, lifting one shoulder, keeping his gaze pinned on Tal. The woman seemed like someone he wouldn’t want to mess with. Mark saw the look in her eyes, saw the fine tension in her body, and felt the energy around her. If she wasn’t law enforcement, then she was military. He met her gaze and hardened his look in her direction, willing her to stay right where she was. Missing nothing upon first perusal, Mark could quickly size up another person and know just how dangerous they were. This woman was damned dangerous, even though she wore a camel-colored pantsuit with a bright orange tee beneath it. She wore no makeup, her black hair lying like a shining cloak around her proud shoulders.

His gaze moved back to Mattie. “I need to talk to you,” he repeated.

Snorting vehemently, she snapped, “I want nothing to do with you, Mark!”

His gut clenched, his heart twisting with guilt and need of her. Mark tried to bury the pain he carried deep within him. He watched the flare of righteous anger in her slitted dark green eyes. Reining in the desire for her that was always with him, he rasped, “Okay, then here it is: you tell your father to keep his wranglers out of the northeast corner of your ranch two nights from now, Mattie.”

His voice dropped. “This isn’t a joke. You need to keep everyone out of that area.” He started to turn, stopped himself, lifting his head, meeting her tear-filled eyes. Less gruffly, the hardness in his gold-brown eyes dissolving, almost turning tender, he said, “Take good care of yourself, Mattie . . .”

Before Mattie could snarl at him, he turned on his heel and was gone. When the door slammed shut, she  jumped. She was breathing raggedly, her heart sledgehammering in her chest. Gulping, she looked at Tal.

“Are you okay?” she asked in a trembling tone.

Giving a slight nod, Tal said, “I’m fine. Is he gone?” She gestured with her chin toward where Mark had disappeared.

Turning, Mattie quickly walked out to the mudroom. Peering out the window, she saw nothing but the outskirts of Van Horn. It was as if Mark had never been there. But he had. She had goose bumps across her skin, and she absently rubbed her upper arms, feeling stunned by his sudden and unexpected presence.

She heard Tal get up, the chair scraping back against the tiled floor. Because of her ankle, she couldn’t move quickly, and Mattie hurried back and met her at the sink. “He’s gone.”

“Did you see where he went?”

Shaking her head, she whispered, “No . . . I looked, but he’s like a ghost. Just . . . gone.” Touching her brow, she added apologetically, “I’m so sorry, Tal. You didn’t need this. God, I didn’t need it either.”

Memorial Day Remberances by Lindsay McKenna

May 30, 2016

I want to honor my father and mother on Memorial Day. My father, Jack Zimmerman, was a Pharmacists Mate 1st class in the US Navy. He was assigned to Hawaii, to Oahu, the hospital that sits next to Pearl Harbor. My mother worked in civil service at Ford Island, in Pearl Harbor, with the US Navy.
Both my parents were there when Pearl Harbor was hit by the Japanese, December 7, 1941. My father was on duty at the hospital that morning. My mother was asleep in their bed. A Japanese Zero went roaring down the road, strafing her neighborhood. She had a bullet pass just above the headboard of the bed where she was sleep.

That day, my parents helped all the heroes who were caught off guard by that horrific attack on battleship row, next to Ford Island. If it hadn’t of happened on a Sunday, my mother would have been on Ford Island, in one of the hangars, working as a secretary.

Jack Zimmerman and Ruth 251

I grew up with the story of Pearl Harbor from a very different perspective than most of the Great Generation and Baby Boomer Generation remember. I have the blood of the battle in my DNA. And I never forget what they did that day, the sights, the sounds, the nauseating smells, the diving Japanese fighters like hornets swarming over Pearl Harbor.

It’s no wonder I grew up and at age 18, went into the US Navy to follow in my father’s footsteps. My mother’s brother, Vinton Cramer, served in WW2, US Army, was a paratrooper and dropped in over France to do his duty.

Lindsay McKenna aka eileen nauman US Navy bootcamp photo copy
US Navy boot camp photo of me. I followed in my father’s footsteps and paid my service to my country, as he and so many other of our family, had done in past wars. My war was Vietnam. And it’s no wonder that later on? I became a writer and I created the first military romance, Captive of Fate, 1983, Silhouette Special Edition. I have gone on from that day to the present, writing about our heroic men and women in 185 books, since then. And will continue to do so until it’s my time to cross over. Our military is 1% of our nation. They give the other 99% their freedom. Let’s honor their sacrifices, as well as their family’s sacrifices on this one day of the year. Memorial Day is NOT a holiday. It was created as “Remembrance Day” to honor those who died serving their country.

Let us remember those of our family, both on our mother and father’s side, of the service they gave to our country to keep us all free on this one day out of the entire year.

Mass market paperback size: tbd

After I was attacked at knifepoint by two soldiers during my service in the Army, I was deeply scarred from the experience, both physically and emotionally. The left side of my face bore a scar that plastic surgeons could not erase, and I felt that no man would ever look at me again without turning away so he wouldn’t have to look at my hideous scar.

I left the military and I escaped from the world I knew and went to work for Delos charity in Costa Rica. I loved my job helping at their school, but once again, I found myself facing a dangerous situation. After two teachers who worked beside me were murdered by a local drug lord, I ran into the jungle, barely escaping with my life.

I quickly contacted Dilara and Robert Culver, the owners of Delos charities, and they sent a bodyguard to protect me after I refused to leave the school children. Of course I was scared, but I was even more frightened for the children. I felt I should stay and make sure our school was rebuilt. Those children loved going to school, and their parents were so grateful to the Delos school for providing an education for them. I couldn’t just walk away.

I had never expected to fall in love when Cav Jordan, an ex-SEAL came into my life. He was hired by the Culvers to protect me, and I figured he’d be like every other man—he’d see the unblemished side of my face and think I was attractive. But when I turned so he could see the long, thin scar from my cheekbone across my cheek, I knew what he would do. He’d look away and try to ignore it. But like other men, he’d probably see nothing but the scar whenever he looked at me.

But I was so wrong about Cav! He saw ME, not my scars! I couldn’t believe it. I’d had so many humiliating experiences because of them, I had given up hoping that one day a man would see past them and see me, my heart, my soul.

I fell in love with Cav because he accepted me immediately, and really wanted to know me, beneath the scars. It took some time because I didn’t make it easy, but he worked at gaining my trust, a little at a time. He was patient with me because he understood what the assault had done to me. It had taken a piece of my soul that would never return.

Cav did more than earn my trust. He brought me his heart and handed it to me. And in doing so, it allowed me to utterly trust him and give him my love in return. Best of all, after I returned to the States, we became engaged.

I so badly wanted my parents to meet this man I loved, and my father embraced him immediately. But my mother turned away from Cav. I don’t know why, but something happened between them. Cav has no idea, and neither do I, why she is resisting him so much. This is the man I love, and it pains me to see how hurt he is by her distrust and wariness.

Cav has never been anything but loving, kind and caring toward me. I don’t know what to do. My greatest wish is for us all to be a family, but if both my parents are not on board, Cav and I will live beneath a shadow that won’t go away. What on earth can I do to help resolve this unexpected setback?

With Romance Novels Booming, Beefcake Sells, but It Doesn’t Pay

This corner of the book world is red hot and among the most innovative, with e-books and apps, and it needs a steady stream of fresh-faced cover models.

In early January, 2016, Lindsay McKenna, Chris Keniston and Susan Stoker embarked on a journey with SAVED BY A SEAL, an 3-book “first in series” anthology with the focus of giving all proceeds earned to america’svetdog.org. We wanted to give back to our military vets. We each took a “first-in-series” book and donated it to our anthology. These all romantic suspense. It is only 99 cents and our whole focus was doing this for this vet charity. On 2.6.16, we put the anthology up on all major platforms except Google.

This may be the one and only time our names are ever mentioned in a New York Times article ! Now isn’t this just too cool? And it’s for such a great cause: helping our vets. The three of us couldn’t be prouder. Plus, Laura Holson, the reporter who wrote the piece, was VERY kind in putting up the info on the charity. She didn’t have to do that—but bless her, too.

SBAS is our anthology and ALL proceeds earned from sales of it go straight to www.americasvetdogs.org. Be a part of this win-win situation! Our military vets deserve our help.

Read down to the part about the making of a cover and find Chris Keniston and myself, Lindsay McKenna — we worked jointly on the cover. Susan Stoker, in the meantime, was on an ocean cruise, unavailable, so the task fell to us to create it without her valuable input. We chose Jason Baca as our model. Tammy Seidick of http://www.TammySeidickDesigns.com, took our direction and did a fabulous job. We made a good team. Chris should be lauded for making the cover what it looks like in the final presentation — I just put in ideas, suggestions here and there ;-). We almost forgot to put the dog tags on Jason—that was my biggest add to the cover, haha.

We all think it’s a great cover!

Fingers crossed the publicity gets more money into the service dog program for disabled veterans ! Remember for only 99 cents to tell all your friends ! All proceeds from the sale of Saved By A SEAL go to http://www.americasvetdogs.org, our charity that will receive all that it makes so that some deserving vet will get one of these wonderfully trained dogs to help her or him in their daily life.

Please SHARE. If you haven’t picked up a copy of our anthology for 99 cents—do so. You won’t be sorry. And all your money goes for a dog for a vet. It’s a win-win, no matter what way you parse it!
